The 1 cent coin have been traditionally minted and used in the United States for over 100 years. A small coin depicting President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse is an American symbol not only for ordinary users, but mainly for collectors.
While the presidential theme on the obverse is unchanged, the motifs on the reverse od One cent are evolving. Over time, the coin has been given several labels - also known as Lincoln Penny, or Lincoln Wheat (by the back).
The differences also concern the composition of metals. The original coin was mostly copper, now made of zinc with copper coating. Only in 1943, because of the war savings, a cent of a combination of zinc and steel was produced.
For numismatics, the valuable series of coins have differences in processing or an error. The degree of scarcity corresponds to their collectible value. The most expensive cents are usually set by auction, the other prices are governed by the level known to those interested.
For comparison on the penny timeline, we used predominantly usual prices for sale among collectors.
